I am always amazed at how the new technology is effecting our lives. To think that during the Pearl Harbor attack, less than 70 years ago, families waited weeks, sometimes months to find out the fate of their loved ones. And today, we know and see things as they are happening.

You can visit live streaming video sites and watch anything from conferences and meetings, to a live stream focused on a political sign to make sure it isn’t stolen (yes, I did see the stream – its like watching paint dry.)

Today NPR put out a request to people on Twitter. As you watch the debate tonight between Biden and Palin, watch for comments either one of them make that go against things they’ve said in the past. And if you find something, find the original source and Twitter about it, using the tag #factcheck. How cool is that – and in some cases its kind of scary.

We all change and grow as people. And let’s face it, I’m sure everyone of us has said things that contradict our beliefs, or something we’ve said in the past. It’s human nature. But imagine being held accountable for every action and word spoken, and have millions of people watching you to find errors.

This really is the time to give one person the control to make a huge difference. You can create one video, or make one comment, and have it circulate to millions of readers/viewers instantly. There is definitely a power of one like no other time in history.

I’ll be anxious later on tonight, or tomorrow to see the results, and to truly see how many errors and mistakes the world helps NPR find.

Hey Lori, just found your blog through twitter.

I missed that announcement from NPR. However I think it’s awesome and scary. I wonder if I only think its awesome because its not directed at me. With the pace things are moving these days I bet there’s a good chance I’ll have the chance to find out how it feels at some point!
