Using Affiliate Sales As An Income Stream For Your Blog

When I work with clients, a lot of my time is spent on strategy, and helping to coach a client into what is possible. ![]()
This past week I met with a client who has a solid business plan. Her business has been growing steadily for the past ten years, she has a great web presence, and her products and services are well defined.
Like most businesses these days, she’s looking for new ways to bring in income. Her company is growing, but there’s always room for improvement.
So I mentioned affiliate sales.

Most people are familiar with Google’s Pay Per Click advertising. By placing ads from Google on your blog or website, Google will pay you a fee for every time someone clicks on one of the ads. Depending on the traffic your site receives, you can earn anywhere from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars per month.
For a lot of businesses, Google Ads are to salesy. They want the primary focus to be on their products and services, not ads from other networks.
Yet for every business model, there are logical products and services that go along with your business model. They enhance it, and in some cases make your products and services sell even better. A couple of ideas are:

So you have a business
already in place. You have your own products and services that people love and refer on a regular basis. You’ve designed your site and your blog to showcase and sell those products and services. Can you make money in any other way?
Definitely.
There are many other opportunities for you to earn income from other businesses products and services.
Think about your business. If someone uses your products or services, are there complementary products and services that you don’t sell, that your customers also use regularly?

One of the hardest things to see in an existing business is an entirely new way to bring in a new stream of income.
I was talking with a friend over the weekend who already has a successful business. She owns a service business, and consults with local business owners.
She already works 40 hours per week, has no desire to increase her hours, but would love another revenue source that she really doesn’t have to work that hard for. Her question was, “Can I do that with a blog?”
You bet
Anytime you work one to one with a client, you have the ability to turn it into a one to many relationship.
So if you’re spending one hour with a client giving them technical advice, wouldn’t ten other business owners pay to hear that same material?
And if you’re spending one hour with a client in Denver, Colorado, would someone in Florida (or Australia, or Ireland, etc) pay to hear that same advice?
